Announcing Spotlight's host, CBC's Suhana Meharchand!

Suhana Meharchand is host of CBC News Now, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET, each weekday morning on CBC News Network.

A two-time Gemini Award nominee, she has hosted numerous CBC News programs, including Saturday Report and weekend programs on CBC Newsworld. She hosted the CBC regional news program in Toronto for five years.

Meharchand also worked for CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario and CJOH in Ottawa. Many people will remember her as host of What's New, the CBC's news and current affairs program for young people.

Heavily involved in the community, her many activities include involvement in Ovarian Cancer Canada, The Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons, Toronto East General Hospital, Redwood Shelter for Women and Children, Scouts Canada and Ernestine House.

She has awards from the Columbus International Film and Video Festival as well as the New York Film and Television Festival. She was voted professional woman of the year by the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce, and Journalist of the Year by South African Women for Women.  Meharchand is also the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International.

Born in Durban, South Africa, Meharchand is a graduate of broadcast journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto.
